Con questa cella potremo generare una differenza di temperatura tra le sue due facce, una si raffredderà, mentre l'altra si riscalderà. Se la polarità è invertita, il lato freddo diventa caldo e viceversa, invertendo la direzione del flusso di calore
Nota: Va tenuto presente che una cella di Peltier consuma una grande quantità di corrente, pertanto, per il suo corretto funzionamento, è necessaria un'alimentazione di 10 ampere (10A) o superiore
Le facce della cella sono realizzate in uno speciale materiale ceramico, che è un buon isolante elettrico e un buon conduttore di calore, ma è meccanicamente relativamente fragile, quindi non deve essere soggetto a urti o forti sollecitazioni
